What Next????
2017 is already shaping up to be another interesting and busy year! The Joondalup Twilight Lantern Parade (part of the Joondalup Festival). Working with four school groups to make lanterns for the parade.
A Community Arts Project with the Victoria Park Centre for the Arts working with children and adults from our Culturally and Linguistically Diverse community to produce artworks which reflect their backgrounds and contribution to Australian life.
And who knows what else!!

September / October
(Two very busy months!)
1. One single workshop at Amherst Library on the 17th September making 3D artworks with the local art group. A fun morning which resulted in the creation of some radical artworks!!
The artworks were pre-prepared as 3 hour workshops do not allow for creation from scratch the base structures are made from board, newspaper and plastic milk containers.
Decoration by collage with art papers and Posca pens.
September /October
2. Working with two groups of artists with disabilities for AS WE ARE http://asweare.com.au/
These were challenging and inspirational and fun workshops. I had the privilege of working with two groups of people with incredible challenges and some remarkable artistic talents!
The workshops took place over 8 weeks one group worked on abstract painting, drawing and collage, they produced some remarkable artworks. This group of wonderful artists had many challenges yet they produced wonderfully colourful and detailed artworks.
The second group worked on 3d artworks using recycled materials and lots of other bits and pieces. They were a very lively bunch and made Thursday afternoons a real joy!
3. Another project with The Song Room at Kewdale Primary School. Creating a series of photo boards for the school grounds with parents, friends and ex students of Kewdale Primary.
Another lively bunch of participants with some very interesting ideas!
Mid June
A new venture for me and my husband Kero O'Shea! We were off to work together on a joint project for Awesome Arts at Coolgardie Primary School.
Coolgardie is located approx 550Km east of Perth in the Goldfields. The school has an enrollment of over 40 students years 1-6 we saw 35 students during our residency. The school serves a large catchment area and many of the children were from Aboriginal families.The school has issues with regular attendance and literacy. The project was sponsored by Healthway.
This was a challenging and most enjoyable project we worked in tandem:
- I made hand puppets with the kids using plastic bottles and art materials. The children were fun to work with and very artistic. Their puppets were unique and innovative.
- Kero is a skilled film maker. His objectives by way of the "Art of Voice" project were to draw out the students' voices through the proxies of their puppets and by teaching them how to use a video camera and how to be filmed. The students developed confidence speaking to the camera and interviewing each other on film. One of the students interviewed the school principal at the final celebration event of the residency.
Our Residency culminated with an exhibition and demonstration of the created artworks to an audience of parents staff and friends. Fresh fruit and vegetables were served kn keeping with the values of Healthway.
